1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites function correctly and remember important information like your login status. Konvio only uses cookies that are strictly necessary for the operation of the service.

2. Marketing Website

When you browse our marketing website (including this page), we set two technically necessary cookies: one holds your session, the other protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Both are first-party and expire within 24 hours. We count page views without cookies. There are no analytics, tracking, or advertising cookies.

3. Application Cookies

When you use the Konvio application (sign in, manage events, or visit event pages), we set a small number of essential cookies. These are used to keep you signed in, protect form submissions from forgery, remember your language preference for event pages, and detect whether you are using Konvio as an installed app. All cookies are first-party and strictly necessary for the service to function. When you open an event page from promotional material we produced (for example a printed QR code), the session cookie briefly carries which material you arrived through, so the visit can be counted towards that material. This records the promotional material, not you, and sets no additional cookie. When you open the instructions for adding an event app to your home screen on an iPhone, we set one more cookie. An iPhone keeps an installed app's data separate from the browser, so without it your visit registration would not come with you. We set it only on those instructions and only if you have a registration to carry, it holds nothing but that device's own anonymous id, and it expires within two weeks. Alongside it we park a copy of what that browser holds for the event (your saved exhibitors and sessions, your interests, your language and appearance choice), so those come with you too. It is encrypted, we do not read it, the installed app collects it on its first start, and it is deleted when the cookie's two weeks are up. When you scan a QR code at a stand or tap an NFC tag at an event, we set one cookie so the app can show you your visit trail: the stands you reached, in the order you reached them. Without it the next screen would not know you had been anywhere. Alongside the scan we store not this cookie's value but a one-way code derived from it that applies only to that event, so the same phone is not recognisable across two different events. It expires within two weeks, and clearing it clears your trail with it. If someone at Konvio sends you a link to preview an event that is not published yet, opening it sets one cookie so the preview stays open while you browse. It names only that one event, it grants nothing anywhere else, and it expires with the link.

4. Browser Storage

The event app also keeps some data in your browser's own storage rather than in a cookie. Most of it is simply what you did in the app: the exhibitors and sessions you saved, the interests you picked, your language and appearance, and which prompts you have already seen. It stays on your device unless you ask the app to send something. One entry is an identifier. The first time you open an event app we generate a random id for that event and keep it under the name konvio-device followed by the event, so the app can tell your phone apart from another one. That is what makes your registration, your visit trail, your badge and your prize-draw entry still yours when you come back, and what an installed app carries over from the browser you installed it from. It is random, never derived from anything about your device, and each event stores only a separate one-way code derived from it, so it does not follow you between events or anywhere off Konvio. You can clear it in your browser settings at any time. That gives you a fresh, empty app, and the trail, the badge and the entry go with it. If you want to ask what an event holds about you, or ask for it to be deleted, this id is the reference to send us.

5. Third-Party Cookies

Konvio does not set any third-party cookies. Our subprocessors do not set cookies on your device through our service.

6. Legal Basis

All cookies and browser storage listed above are technically necessary for the operation of the service. They are exempt from the consent requirement under Section 165(3) TKG 2021 (Austrian Telecommunications Act). The processing is further based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in providing a secure, functional service).

7. Managing Cookies

Since we only use technically necessary cookies, there is no cookie consent banner. You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies at any time, but this may affect the functionality of the application (e.g. you will not be able to stay signed in). Browser storage is cleared the same way, under your browser's site data for this site.

8. Changes to This Policy

We will update this page if our cookie usage changes. The "last updated" date at the top indicates when this policy was last revised.
